Distribution board/fuse board/fuse box/ consumer unit/electric box whatever you call it!

A distribution board is the hub of the installation. Generally, if your distribution board looks good, the rest of the installation is likely to be be of similar quality. It’s a tell tale sign as to how much care was given by the electrician when everything was installed. A dated distribution board  isn’t necessarily unsafe, as it would’ve complied with previous regulations.

A distribution board can give an estimated age of the installation. An old distribution board generally means old wires and accessories. If you're thinking of replacing your distribution board, it may be an idea to have your existing installation inspected. As technology has progressed, so have distribution boards. There is now no need to fiddle around with fuse wire. Modern distribution boards are much safer, and more convenient for the consumer.
