Due to the nature of modern installations and safety devices, they are a lot more sensitive to imbalances on the circuit. This can often make it more difficult to identify the problem. Tripping devices such as RCDs and fuses will often trip because of an issue on the circuit. Whilst basic fault finding is normally described on the paperwork supplied with your distribution board, and can be carried out by anyone, the fault cannot always be identified by these methods.
